[FLNK MAGAZINE] ONE PACT INTERVIEW
ONE PACT, who had been walking their own paths, gathered and began to step together. Just like the lyrics of <RUSH IN 2 U>, which say, ‘If the time I’ve been waiting for so long is now, I won't spend it carelessly', they are putting all their efforts into enjoying this moment.
Q. The chemistry between all members looks great. What made you get closer to each other?
[SEONGMIN] We met on a TV show and have shared memories of enduring challenges together there, which created a similar emotional bond. As you know, we had the same goal on the show, so even when we became one team, we had a mutual understanding to aim high. Besides, personality-wise, we surprisingly get along very well. I believe that’s why our chemistry is strong.
Q. You’re currently living together in a dorm. Who are roommates with whom?
[SEONGMIN] JONGWOO hyung(the elder brother) and TAG share a room, while JAY and YEDAM share another. I have a single room.
[YEDAM] The rooms were assigned based on who entered the dorm first. SEONGMIN hyung came in first, so he got the biggest room. He filled the room with Jordy(Kakao character) and dolls to keep anyone else from entering.
[TAG] Our members generally have a mindset like, 'What’s good is good,' so we don't care who gets which room. Also, we usually stay in the living room.
[JONGWOO] That's right. We just go into our rooms to sleep. In the living room, we play games and watch movies together.
[YEDAM] Lately, we’ve been spending a lot of time in the dorm listening to music together and contemplating the next album. It was enjoyable.
Q. Let’s talk about how you feel when you debuted as ONE PACT. Each of you had already stood on many stages individually.
[SEONGMIN] During the hiatus before debuting as ONE PACT, I realized that I love to do the stage. I didn’t know that when I performed on the stage repeatedly before, but the stage was calling me. So I decided to try once more as ONE PACT. I was very gratified when I performed what I had prepared on the stage again, hearing the cheers from our fans.
[JAYCHANG] Before debuting as ONE PACT, I debuted as a solo artist. Being alone brought me some challenges and good things, but being part of ONE PACT made me feel more comfortable because I’m with my friends. Also, it broadened my spectrum by allowing me to explore music styles I hadn't tried before. It's great that I can try various things as an artist.
[YEDAM] Before, I mostly practiced alone, so I didn't often receive any feedback from others. But after debuting as ONE PACT, hyungs(elder members) have given me a lot of feedback about my singing or dancing, which I appreciate. Also, I felt like we became a true team when we conferred with each other about what direction we need to take and are getting in harmony. It made me happy.
Q. TAG produced ONE PACT’s first album [Moment]. How did you define the identity and direction of ONE PACT during your work on it, TAG?
[TAG] To be honest, I didn't have much time to ponder what music style would suit all five ONE PACT members. So I focused on the thing that we can do well right now while I worked with the mindset of challenging the path that others don’t try. The title track and the other songs on the album belong to different genres. I think I wanted to show that ONE PACT can handle various genres in the first album. The most important thing is that ONE PACT's color doesn't overlap with others. We plan to continue doing that in the future as well.
Q. As a producer, what do you think the charm of each member's vocal?
[TAG] JONGWOO hyung has a deep and thick voice tone, so I tend to give him parts to highlight it. SEONGMIN hyung is the best member who captures best the classic idol vibe among us, and sings reliably. JAY is a distinctive main vocalist who sings like a monster, handling any part in his own style, which makes his vocal spectrum the most diverse. I think YEDAM is a dark horse. His vocal tone is unique, so as he gains more experience, he will do even better. I'm good at everything. (laughs)
Each of us has different favorite genres, singing styles, and vocal ranges. I think <멋진거(Hot Stuff)> is the best song which reveals each member's attraction.
Q. JONGWOO participated as a director of the music video of <RUSH IN 2 U> from this album. What message did you intend to deliver, and could you share the process of the project?
[JONGWOO] In the video, members individually search for something and eventually gather where JAY is. It has various meanings. It signifies comforting JAY who faced challenges during his solo project and reflects our unity as a group.
I sent cue sheets to the members and explained what we’re going to do where, and the emotions for each scene. They all did well exactly what I directed. Although I've had an interest in making videos, this was my first time being deeply involved in such detailed work. It was enjoyable, but there were many deleted scenes, which is a bit regrettable.
Q. At the end of the music video, JONGWOO picks up a letter that fell to the ground. What’s that letter?
[JONGWOO] Originally, Tae Gyun(TAG) was supposed to pick it up and end the scene, but he injured his hand at that time. So he had to go to see a doctor, and I sent him. Speaking of the letter, I wanted to trigger curiosity like, 'What is this?' in that scene.
[TAG] The meaning of the letter will be revealed in the next album! I just thought it now.
Q. Please tell us about the charm of the member next to you.
[YEDAM] JAY hyung seems like an oppa(the elder brother) when singing, but he’s actually cute like a younger brother that I want to take care of. Also, even though I'm the youngest, he plays with me a lot, which I appreciate.
[JAYCHANG] SEONGMIN is the same age as me, but he takes care of everyone like an older brother. He is like a mom in our team.
[SEONGMIN] TAG looks cool and stylish on stage, but in backstage, he's playful and relaxes the mood of our team.
[TAG] JONGWOO hyung dances sexy, and he is ambitious. It's impressive how he overcomes the lacking parts of himself.
[JONGWOO] YEDAM is cute. Like an exemplary student, he asks whatever he doesn’t know and tries to learn anything. It's commendable.
Q. FLNK combines FAN and LINK, and it’s a platform that connects fans and artists. How would ONE PACT like to connect with fans in the future?
[JAYCHANG] I want to create a link, giving lots of love to our fans through good music and performances. Also, I wish we could build a relationship of trust with our fans, enabling us to stay by each other’s side forever.
[SEONGMIN] I want a legal connection, like a family relationship certificate. Well, I often imagine various scenarios. Our goal is to become a long-lasting group, and if that happens, I believe &♡ would truly be family to us.
