[FLNK MAGAZINE] NOMAD Interview
Is there any new artist who knows themselves so well? NOMAD is capturing the attention of fans all around the world with their debut album [NOMAD], which features music that they like and are good at.
FLNK Magazine visited their practice room. Here is a moment of one day with five boys enjoying a debut celebration party in the area where NOMAD can be NOMAD.

Q. Today's shooting concept is a debut celebration party. On the day of your debut, did you do anything special to commemorate the debut?
[SANGHA] On the day of our debut, we received a lot of cakes, so we shared them with all the members and organized the flower bouquets we received together. Our house is like a flower garden now. (Laughs) We exchanged words like "We're lucky to have completed the debut showcase,” and “Let's work even harder from now on." It truly felt like a fresh start.
Q. Today we took a photoshoot in your practice room. What does the practice room mean to NOMAD?
[RIVR] The practice room is a place to get to know myself better. I can identify my strengths and weaknesses because I can see my reflection in the mirror. It's like a space for self-reflection.
Q. How did it feel to showcase what you had been practicing in the practice room to a large audience on stage? How was the stage different?
[SANGHA] What made the stage special and new was having fans right in front of us. From the second week of our music show promotions, fans started coming up with their own cheering ways for us, and their cheering reached us while we were performing. It was thrilling and touching, and I felt so grateful. I think the atmosphere was different from when we were practicing.
[ONE] Initially, there were many variables and things to care about on stage, so I was a bit confused at the moment. However, as we continued our performances, there was a sense of growth with each step. Also, I felt the desire to improve further, thinking “If I’ve accomplished this, then I can do other things, too.” The stage makes me look forward to the future even more.

Q. DOY, you produced the debut album [NOMAD 1st EP 'NOMAD'], but you also choreographed the title track <California love>.
[DOY] I quickly sketched out the choreography within two days, drawing on the most exciting and appealing movements we could imagine. I incorporated movements that NOMAD is good at, and then the choreography was completed. The highlight of the choreography is called an airplane dance. I envisioned flying to California. From the start to the end of the chorus, it's all about flying on an airplane. The part where all five members start with a bang is like a takeoff, and the ending depicts arrival.
Q. How are music production and choreography creation different?
[DOY] They are different yet similar. While the specific processes may vary, overall, they are not that different to me. Ultimately, both music production and choreography creation aim to achieve the same outcome. Both processes involve pursuing what NOMAD thinks is cool, and enjoyable, and what we are good at.
Q. You shot music videos for six tracks on your debut album in the United States. Please let us know about the behind-the-scenes of the music video production.
[DOY] We wanted to create a cool track video for <Let me love you> with a one-take shot in a car. So we had been sharing our ideas for 1-2 months before going to the United States. We tried to make it, but we were too busy to execute the plan. However, during the filming of the <Oasis> music video, we encountered a car that perfectly fits our vision. We immediately contacted the owner and borrowed it for about 30 minutes to shoot the scene twice, and the result was surprisingly satisfactory.
[ONE] While we were shooting the bicycle scene for the <California love> music video, a local artist passing by approached us first and asked, "Are you a singer?" When I said yes, he told me, "You look so cool, and I hope everything goes well with what you're doing." I felt really good to hear that. From then on, I could shoot in a brighter and relaxed atmosphere.
Q. What was the most impressive feedback you received from fans after revealing your first work?
[DOY] The most striking feedback was "It's a bit different," meaning "NOMAD has its unique music." I liked it. As we gradually release albums, we aim to strengthen and expand our boundaries, so the feedback was very impressive for our efforts to begin this journey.
[ONE] "Keep going" especially resonated with me. I felt it means something like "What you're doing is great, so keep going." It gave us a sense of expectation that we could fulfill what people wanted for and also reaffirmed that we're heading in the right direction.
Q. Please tell us about the charm of the member next to you.
[DOY] SANGHA has a lively energy, and he is adorable and cute. Although he has a different energy from mine, I think we are alike and comfortable friends because we are the same age.
[SANGHA] I think RIVR is charming when performing on stage or singing, even though he's younger than me. When RIVR sings in the recording studio, he's so cool that I often find myself just watching him without thinking.
[RIVR] JUNHO has many charms, but let me pick just one thing. (laughs) I've never seen anyone who is that considerate in my life. He's the kind of friend whose consideration has become a habit, so being around him warms my heart.
[JUNHO] The keywords for ONE are effort and passion. He never does anything half-heartedly, and he always thinks about how to improve and finally makes it. It motivates me to work harder too.
[ONE] DOY knows how to point out our shortcomings. But it doesn't make me feel bad because he fills in the part I need anyway and it helps us a lot. He's a truly trustworthy leader.

Q. FLNK combines FAN and LINK, and it’s a platform that connects fans and artists. How would NOMAD like to connect with fans in the future?
[DOY] We pursue freedom without boundaries and aspire to transform every place we tread into a stage. With our fans as our base camp, where we can rest, we hope to move forward together. We move based on our fan, “BASE”, you see.
[RIVR] I wish for a relationship without barriers between us. I hope we always feel like we're interacting and intimately connected. It would be nice to feel like we're moving somewhere together and that if we progress, we're moving forward together. I want our fans to truly feel the sense of being together.
