[FLNK MAGAZINE] CHUU Interview

2024.09.06

CHUU is expanding her musical world by releasing her second album, [Strawberry Rush].

FLNK Magazine exclusively reveals stories behind the album's creation, her tour in the Americas, and behind-the-scenes cuts from the music video.

Q. You recently went on a fan concert tour in the Americas. How was it?

A. It was truly an honor to perform on stage and receive so much positive energy in such special places. I got to visit many new cities that I hadn’t been to on the last tour. This was also my first time performing in South America. I’ve wanted to visit South America for a long time, especially since so many fans there have been supporting me for years. So I was happy to finally meet them. Although we live in different places and speak different languages, KKOTI and I were united through music, and I believe we created unforgettable, heartwarming memories together.

Q. What was the most memorable moment from this tour?

Right before the tour started, I was worried because my throat wasn’t in the best condition. But when I was on stage with the fans, I somehow found energy and power I didn’t even know I had. I remember being surprised by it myself. I think it was the energy from the fans at the venue that gave me the strength to finish the performance successfully.

Q. Were there any aspects of the tour that you felt could have been better?

While I was incredibly grateful and honored to meet so many fans in the Americas, I found myself wishing I could also visit KKOTI in other countries whom I haven't had the chance to meet yet. Additionally, it's a bit unfortunate that I haven't been able to hold a fan concert in Korea since releasing my new album. I hope that next time, I'll have the opportunity to perform and connect with fans not only in Korea but also in other regions.

Q. Did you discover anything new while preparing for the [Strawberry Rush] album?

I had the opportunity to deeply reflect on the "energy" I possess. I spent a lot of time thinking about how to best express my unique energy on stage, both vocally and through my performance. Through this process of self-reflection and experimentation, I believe I’ve grown a lot.

Q. Which song from the [Strawberry Rush] album took the longest to record?

While I enjoyed recording all the songs thanks to the help of many people on-site, ‘Strawberry Rush’ took the longest. The delivery of the lyrics was crucial and it was important to convey the energetic power of the song, so I did several re-recordings to fine-tune even the smallest details.

Favorite song lately? / "BIRDS OF A FEATHER" by Billie Eilish

Do you request a refund if the size of clothes ordered online doesn’t fit? / No, I usually try it on before buying or ensure the size is right.

Favorite movie theater snack? / Original popcorn with squid legs

Window or aisle seat when traveling? / Window seat!

Most recent purchase? / Vitamins

Favorite perfume or scent? / Tulip perfume

Pre-stage routine? / Eat well and take care of my throat

How do you memorize lyrics? / Keep listening and singing… 🚰·̫🚰 I still change it up often though.

What’s your essential item? / Perfume, lip balm

What do you want to know about KKOTI? / When does KKOTI think of me? What conversations do they want to have with me? Which of my songs would they like to listen to directly? What concepts would they like to see? And if I were to hold a concert, which cover songs would they like to listen to?

Q. I heard you often write in a journal and jot down lyrics or emotions in a notebook whenever they come to mind. What’s the most recent thing you’ve written?

Hmm... I tend to write down some really funny things. The most recent note I wrote says, “I am a special person living in Seoul Special City. It’s okay.” I’m not sure why, but it just came to me while I was washing up, so I wrote it down.

Q. In 2024, which area do you most want to grow in musically?

In addition to vocals and dance, I'd like to develop my skills in songwriting and composing. I'm still working hard on these areas and I believe I’ll continue to grow across the board.

Q. When do you feel most cool?

When I keep working on something until I succeed, despite the challenges. It’s also when I follow my instincts and give my best without fear, truly enjoying and loving what I do. I think people who are passionate about what they do and persist in their efforts are cool.

Q. Are there any particularly memorable letters from KKOTIs?

There are so many heartfelt letters, but one that stands out is the one that said, "Your singing soothes my heart." I’m incredibly grateful that my voice and songs can comfort someone and bring them joy. That’s exactly why I sing. I want my songs to touch people and offer them warmth.

Q. FLNK combines FAN and LINK, and it’s a platform that connects fans and artists. How would you like to connect with fans in the future?

I want to share even the small, daily moments and make sure that our warmth is always conveyed to each other, maintaining a connection where we care for and think about each other
