[FLNK MAGAZINE] POW(파우) INTERVIEW
POW powered their universe, which is unbelievable because they've just debuted. Their distinctive poetic lyrics and soft melodies warm everyone’s hearts, and the boys’ friendship and free vibe have an irresistible power. FLNK Magazine encountered them who, despite their mild appearance, have a captivating appeal.
Q. How was your photo shoot with FLNK Magazine?
[JUNGBIN] The outfit and overall concept today had a soft and dreamy vibe, which I think matched well with our title track, <Dazzling>. I was a bit nervous initially, but the photographer set the mood, so I had a great time during the shoot.
[YORCH] We filmed the music video for <Dazzling> in Hungary, and today, it felt like we had that same vibe. It was cozy and delightful. I liked it.
Q. It’s right before your official debut. How are you doing?
[HYUNBIN] We’re preparing for an offline pop-up event called 'POW HOUSE’, where we'll invite fans and have a small-scale performance at a cafe. We're practicing as if the fans are right in front of us, enjoying the moment together. Additionally, we're getting ready for music broadcasts and a big festival performance in Thailand.
Q. All members are vocalists. How would you describe each member’s vocal style?
[JUNGBIN] I have a clean and stable vocal style, DONGYEON’s is lively, HYUNBIN features an attractive tone, YORCH hyung(the elder brother) sings smoothly, and HONG has an energetic vocal style. Each of us has different charms.
Q. You shot three music videos for your 1st EP [Favorite]. How was it?
[HYUNBIN] What I really liked was that the director gave us a general direction, allowing us to strike poses freely and act comfortably. I enjoyed it because we were free to express ourselves.
[DONGYEON] During the shooting of the <Favorite> music video, except for HONG, the four of us had to take off our tops and get into the lake. So, during our breaks, we kept exercising. We did planks, push-ups, and tried everything we could. Our fans would know whether the results were good!
[JUNGBIN] It was our first schedule overseas, and although we didn't have a lot of free time, just wandering around ourselves made me feel good. Being able to shoot in a new place after spending so much time in the practice room was enjoyable.
Q. In the behind-the-scenes video of the music video, you all showed naturally synchronized dance moves in the practice room. Who usually leads the practice sessions?
[HONG] When we practice our dance, our main dancer, DONGYEON hyung, observes the angles and formation in the front and points out any parts that don't match.
[HYUNBIN] DONGYEON gives us detailed feedback, making us feel comfortable.
[DONGYEON] I've been dancing a bit longer than the other members, and maybe that's why I took the lead in the dance practice. For the vocal session, JUNGBIN usually leads the practices and gives feedback to us.
[JUNGBIN] Typically, when providing vocal feedback, I don't interfere too much with each member's individual styles. I try to focus on pitch, tone, and overall balance according to the guidelines provided.
Q. POW has its slogan, ‘Creating Culture Everyday’. What does it mean?
[JUNGBIN] ‘Creating Culture Everyday’ means that we aim to turn our everyday life into something like a culture. We hope that our daily actions, big or small, seamlessly become a part of the daily lives of our fans. For instance, taking photos with the same pose or, conversely, fans also sharing their daily lives with us. In this way, we are collectively building a culture together.
Q. The fashion of POW is really cool. Who is the most interested in fashion?
[HONG] All of our members love fashion, but especially YORCH hyung dresses well. He and I have similar tastes. So, when I go on a date with YORCH hyung, we always visit vintage shops.
[YORCH] I like the vintage style, but these days, I mainly wear comfortable styles because I usually go to the practice room. I wear soccer uniform-style outfits and baggy pants.
Q. Please tell us about the charm of the member next to you.
[YORCH] When HYUNBIN strikes a cool pose, he's cool, but when he smiles, he's cute. That difference is charming.
[HYUNBIN] HONG is very playful, and he's quite cute to us. Sometimes he is like a friend, and sometimes, like an adorable younger brother.
[HONG] DONGYEON hyung is sweet. Also, he jokes around and laughs a lot with us, though he is a little shy outside.
[DONGYEON] I love JUNGBIN's dazzling smile. JUNGBIN always talks to us with a smile. So, when JUNGBIN leads the team, we feel that he takes care of us a lot, which makes us follow him better.
[JUNGBIN] YORCH hyung is very gentle. He is like a Golden Retriever. He's a really nice mathyung(the eldest).
Q. FLNK combines FAN and LINK, and it’s a platform that connects fans and artists. How would POW like to connect with fans in the future?
[HYUNBIN] We want to become a supporter of each other. We believe that we will naturally link to our fans.
[JUNGBIN] We want to connect with our fans in various ways. Just like our slogan, 'Creating Culture Everyday', we hope our culture becomes a part of the daily lives of our fans.
