[FLNK MAGAZINE] ROCKY Backstage INTERVIEW
ROCKY, an 8-year veteran artist, vividly paints his musical world in his debut solo album [ROCKYST]. FLNK MAGAZINE captured the exhilarating moment of ROCKY’s showcase, where he unveiled everything he had prepared for the first time.
Q. Congratulations on your solo debut. How was the showcase? It was your very first stage as a solo artist.
It was an exciting and nervous moment full, of various emotions. I was happy performing on stage in front of my fans who had been waiting. It was a bit challenging while preparing, but those feelings instantly vanished on stage.
Q. You choreographed the dance for the title track ‘Lucky Rocky’ and another track ‘Chameleon’. Could you introduce the features of each choreography?
In the chorus part of ‘Lucky Rocky’, I made gestures of the lucky number 7 to match the lyrics ‘LUCKY’. If you dance along, luck will come your way. In <Chameleon>, I tried to express sensuality with smooth movements that evoke the image of a chameleon.
Q. You participated in the lyrics for all the songs on this album. How do you usually get inspired when writing lyrics?
My main source of inspiration comes from movies. I cherish memorable scenes from films in my mind and start to imagine from there, and then it leads me to create a piece of work.
Q. While preparing for this solo album, did you discover anything new about yourself?
It seems like I have good endurance! (laughs) I'm currently handling quite a lot of tasks, so I even haven't had much time for proper sleep. But thanks to my endurance, I've been able to carry on persistently without collapsing.
Q. Wasn't it challenging to create a whole stage by yourself?
It was indeed not easy to fill the stage and the song entirely on my own. However, unlike the group activities when I had to express music and emotions only in designated parts, now, with a solo project, I can try various things within one song. I like it because it enables me to widen my range of expression.
Q. Can you share any moment you felt you were lucky recently?
I believe being able to meet fans again is the greatest luck for me. I want to get connected emotionally with my fans anytime, anywhere, and mutually cheer each other.
